We’re working with one of our long-standing customers on a crucial hire: Head of Engineering. They’re a fast-growing digital banking business with a reputation for doing things differently serving hundreds of thousands of customers across the UK with accessible, inclusive, and user-focused financial services.

What you’ll be doing

As Head of Engineering, you’ll lead the delivery of high-quality, secure, and scalable software across the platform. Working closely with the CTO and other senior leaders, your mission is to build and empower a brilliant team while ensuring the tech supports growth, innovation, and top-tier customer experiences.

Your core responsibilities:

• Lead, inspire and grow the engineering team setting the tone for ownership, autonomy, and continuous learning.
• Shape and drive the engineering strategy in line with broader product and business goals.
• Champion Agile delivery and a modern engineering culture across the teams.
• Take full ownership of the SDLC from code to deployment, testing, and QA.
• Drive the adoption of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and automation best practices.
• Work cross-functionally with Product, Delivery, Ops, and Compliance teams to ensure the right outcomes for the business.
• Represent engineering at senior leadership level and support business-wide initiatives.
• Ensure the tech stack is secure, resilient, and compliant while identifying and mitigating technical risk.
• Stay ahead of emerging trends and guide the introduction of new tools, frameworks, and approaches.

What we’re looking for

You’re a proven engineering leader who’s equally comfortable talking about technology, business, and people. You’ve got a track record of building high-performing teams and scaling platforms that are robust, secure, and user-focused.

You’ll bring:

• Experience leading engineering teams ideally in financial services, digital banking, or fintech.
• Deep understanding of Agile, DevOps, and modern software delivery.
• Hands-on technical knowledge with one or more modern languages and cloud-native architectures.
• A strong grasp of compliance, risk, and regulatory requirements in a digital product setting.
• A collaborative leadership style, able to build alignment across cross-functional teams.
• The ability to mentor, coach, and develop engineers at all levels.
• A passion for clean code, secure by design principles, and continuous improvement.

The Role

As a Software Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in building out critical components of the platform. From architecting scalable systems in Go, to integrating services across a cloud-native stack in AWS, this is a hands-on role where your technical decisions will have direct user impact.

You’ll work closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and fellow backend specialists to ship features that are both technically elegant and commercially valuable.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain robust backend services using Go
• Collaborate with React frontend developers to ensure seamless end-to-end performance
• Leverage AWS services to optimise scalability, reliability, and security
• Translate product and customer requirements into scalable backend solutions
• Participate in code reviews and engineering rituals to uphold code quality and best practice
• Stay current with emerging technologies and tools, sharing knowledge across the team

What They’re Looking For

• Solid commercial experience as a Backend Engineer, ideally in product-led or FinTech environments
• Deep understanding of Go and its ecosystem, with clean and testable code
• Strong knowledge of AWS services and cloud infrastructure
• Experience working in environment where frontend/backend collaboration is key, React exposure a plus
• Problem-solving mindset with great attention to performance and maintainability
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned software engineer looking to work with the latest and greatest tech. Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using C# and .NET
• Develop high-quality, responsive frontend applications using React and TypeScript
• Deploy and manage cloud-native solutions within Microsoft Azure
• Lead and implement DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and containerisation
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and client stakeholders to gather requirements and drive project delivery
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team

What They’re Looking For

• Proven experience delivering commercial software using .NET and React
• Strong understanding of Azure cloud services and DevOps workflows
• Hands-on experience with containerisation (Docker) and automated deployments
• Solid grounding in relational databases, particularly SQL Server and PostgreSQL
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• A consultancy mindset comfortable working in client-facing roles and adaptable to a range of project types
• Willingness to travel for in-person collaboration several times each month

Desirable Skills

• Exposure to microservices architecture
• Familiarity with both SQL and NoSQL data models
• Experience working in Agile, Scrum, or Kanban delivery teams
