Senior Linux / Unix Engineer (12-Month FTC)
Salary: £75-85k

- 3 days per week in the office
A global financial services organisation is looking for a Senior Linux / Unix Engineer to join its Infrastructure Engineering team supporting a large and business-critical Linux estate.
This is an opportunity for a strong Linux engineer to work in a high-availability production environment, supporting key trading and financial platforms while helping the organisation modernise towards automation, DevOps tooling and cloud infrastructure.
💼 What you’ll be doing
- Managing and maintaining a large Linux / Unix server estate
- Supporting core business-critical applications and platforms
- Building, patching and upgrading Linux systems to ensure security, performance and stability
- Automating operational processes using Ansible, Python and Bash
- Troubleshooting complex OS-level issues and performance bottlenecks
- Supporting containerised workloads
- Monitoring infrastructure using modern observability tooling
- Working closely with infrastructure, security and application teams
- Helping evolve traditional Linux operations toward SRE-style automation and cloud operations
The role focuses on operational excellence, automation and platform stability across enterprise Linux environments.
🖥 Technology environment
- Linux: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Solaris
- Virtualisation/ Cloud: VMware- moving into AWS
- Automation: Ansible
- Scripting: Python, Bash
- Containers: Docker, Podman
- Monitoring: Grafana, Prometheus
- Infrastructure scale: ~200 Linux VMs supporting core financial applications

👤 What we’re looking for
- Strong experience administering enterprise Linux environments
- Advanced troubleshooting skills across CPU, memory, network and storage
- Experience with Ansible automation and configuration management
- Strong scripting skills in Python or Bash
- Experience with containers (Docker / Podman)
- Comfortable working in large production environments
