AI Engineer - Outside IR35 // Fully Remote // 500 a day
About the Company
We’re hiring an experienced AI-focused Engineer to join a consultancy delivering a large, high-impact programme of work.
Responsibilities
- You’ll work hands-on with tools like Claude Code, building and embedding ways of working that engineers can rely on every day, including:
- Skills, hooks, and AGENTS.md
- MCP servers and remote tooling
- Subagents and specialised review agents
- Evaluation frameworks and feedback loops
Qualifications
- We want someone who can turn AI into practical, repeatable engineering leverage.
Required Skills
- Building governed, reusable workflows instead of relying on prompting or ad hoc usage
- Using deterministic tooling such as tests, linters, type checks, compilers, and security checks to ensure models prove outputs rather than guess
- Standardising how engineers and agents operate within repositories using skills, hooks, and AGENTS.md
- Connecting agents to real systems of record through MCP and remote tooling such as Storybook, Figma, internal platforms, documentation, and security tooling
Preferred Skills
- You should be comfortable:
- Designing and implementing subagents and specialised agents for code review, security, and architecture without introducing unnecessary complexity
- Working directly in codebases and improving developer workflows
- Building systems that engineers actually adopt and trust
A key part of the role is understanding where AI fails and improving it:
- Identifying failure patterns and gaps in performance
- Feeding insights back into skills, prompts, context, and tooling
- Continuously improving reliability and usefulness over time
This role is for you if:
- You think like an engineer first, with strong systems thinking
- You care about building robust, production-ready environments
- You want to make AI genuinely useful across teams, not just interesting
If you’re excited about building the engineering foundations that make AI work at scale, we’d love to speak.
We are seeking an experienced MLOps Engineer (Contract) with a strong background in Machine Learning Engineering, who has hands-on experience productionising ML models for multiple clients.
The focus of the role is building and enabling production-grade ML environments rather than model development itself.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain end-to-end MLOps environments to support model training, tracking, deployment, and monitoring
- Enable model deployment into production (batch and/or real-time) with robust CI/CD
- Work closely with Data Scientists to transition models from experimentation to production
- Build scalable, secure, and reproducible ML platforms
- Establish best practices around:
- Model governance
- Monitoring and retraining
- Environment management
- Integrate with cloud and data platforms such as Databricks
Essential Experience
- Strong MLOps background, not just theoretical knowledge
- Demonstrable experience productionising ML models for at least 2–3 client engagements
- Background in one or more of:
- DevOps
- Data Science / Machine Learning Engineering
- Data Engineering (not required, but acceptable if MLOps-led)
- Experience designing and supporting ML platforms in production environments
Technical Skills (Required / Highly Desirable)
- Python-centric ML workflows
- MLflow
- Databricks (strong preference)
- MLOps platform experience (e.g. VertexAI, Sagemaker, etc)
- CI/CD for ML (e.g. GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, etc.)
Nice to Have
- Experience working in consulting or client-facing delivery roles
- Exposure to multiple industries or ML use cases
- Model monitoring and drift detection experience
- Role: Standalone UK IT Manager for Wilderness Group, supporting three travel/safari brands (Wilderness, Yellow Zebra, Jakarta) under a PE-backed group.
- Context: Wilderness Group has grown quickly via acquisition (Jakarta and Yellow Zebra) and operates safaris primarily in Africa; UK headcount is ~230 across sales, operations, marketing, finance, etc.
- Current state: No formal UK IT function; IT currently run out of South Africa plus an outdated third-party provider (Tip Top) and ad hoc office manager support. This is the first dedicated UK IT hire.
- Reporting lines: Functional reporting into the Wilderness IT team in South Africa (CTO and/or senior IT lead), with a local dotted line into Matt (UK Finance Director).
- Role mandate: Build and own the UK IT function day-to-day – assess current environment, introduce structure and process, drive cost efficiencies and security, and become the go-to IT contact across the three UK offices.
- Experience level & type
- Standalone / small-team IT leadership experience, ideally as an IT Manager or very strong senior engineer stepping into ownership of IT for an SME/multi-site environment.
- Proven track record of coming into a relatively greenfield or unstructured IT landscape, assessing the environment, and defining/implementing improvements (process, tooling, vendors, security).
- Comfort acting as both hands-on support and strategic owner (designing processes, making tech/vendor recommendations, driving cost savings).
- Technical environment & skills
- Experience supporting a mixed Microsoft / Google environment preferred:
- Wilderness uses Microsoft stack (Teams, Office 365, likely Azure/AD etc.).
- Yellow Zebra & Jakarta use Google Workspace.
- Comfort with both Windows and Mac endpoints; environment is predominantly Windows but marketing and some teams use Macs.
- General SME infrastructure skills: endpoint build and provisioning, user account management, basic networking/Wi-Fi, printers, office moves/changes, etc.
- Ability to select, implement, and run an IT ticketing system from scratch, plus automation of common support flows (onboarding, provisioning, password resets, etc.).
- Vendor management skills:
- Review and rationalise current outsourced provider (Tip Top) and any other suppliers.
- Propose more cost-effective models (e.g., reducing external hours, leasing vs buying hardware, alternative support vendors).
- Security mindset: implement and/or validate endpoint and account security; Brooke currently has “no idea” what security is on devices, so candidate must be capable of introducing basic controls and working with the SA team on policies (including AI policy, etc.).
- Stakeholder & collaboration
- Able to liaise closely with the South African IT/tech leadership for alignment on group standards, architecture, and policies.
- Comfortable working with non-technical stakeholders (HR, Finance, office managers, sales leaders) and explaining decisions in plain language.
- Self-starter: minimal local IT guidance; must be able to independently assess the “lay of the land,” prioritise, and drive change.
- Soft skills & culture fit
- Personable, approachable “face of IT” across UK offices – someone people are happy to walk up to with issues.
- Clear, proactive communicator; able to manage expectations and communicate constraints and priorities.
- Enjoys a non-corporate, relaxed and flexible culture (travel industry vibe), but can still bring structure and discipline to IT.
- Comfortable being the only dedicated IT person in the UK and owning end-to-end outcomes.
- Nice-to-haves / Potential future
- Experience in travel, hospitality or similar multi-brand consumer environments is not required and not a priority.
- Any experience with marketing/digital tooling (e.g. HubSpot, which has just been rolled out) would be a bonus but not core.
- Base: London, with responsibility for three UK offices:
- Yellow Zebra: Kingston (South West London).
- Jakarta: Old Street (East London).
- Wilderness: London Bridge.
- Hybrid: Standard pattern is 3 days in-office / 2 days remote, but company is very flexible on which days – driven by business need (e.g. large onboarding cohorts).
- Travel: Candidate must be willing and able to travel between the three London offices as needed; no separate travel expenses currently paid for intra-London commuting.

Product Manager
Industry: Payroll Software
Location: Cheadle Hulme (office-based, 5 days per week)
Salary: £50,000 to £60,000 depending on experience
Our client is a payroll-focused software business entering an exciting new phase of growth. Having established themselves as a leader within the umbrella payroll space, they are now formally expanding into the wider payroll market with a new product that launched last year and is already live with paying customers.
The product has moved beyond proof of concept and is being used to run payroll for thousands of employees across around 100 businesses. With ambitious plans to scale this platform significantly, they are now looking for a Product Manager to take ownership of its next stage of growth.
This is a hands-on, office-based role in Cheadle Hulme, working closely with senior stakeholders, customers and a distributed engineering function to shape a genuinely modern payroll product.
The role
This position will suit a mid to senior level Product Manager who is ready to step up, take ownership and have real influence over product direction. You will work closely with the Product Director and senior leadership, playing a key role in defining strategy while remaining hands-on with delivery.
You will be embedded within a small, close-knit UK team, while also working day-to-day with a larger engineering team based in India. This is not an outsourced setup, but an integrated subsidiary that works UK hours and collaborates closely with the product function.
What you will be doing
- Owning and shaping the product roadmap as the platform scales through its growth phase
- Working closely with software engineers, designers and QA to deliver high-quality features
- Collaborating with Sales, Marketing and Executive teams to define value propositions and target markets
- Speaking directly with existing and prospective customers to understand payroll challenges and identify opportunities
- Translating business and user needs into clear user stories, acceptance criteria and prioritised backlog items
- Ensuring the product remains compliant with relevant UK payroll legislation
- Challenging assumptions and contributing to product strategy, not just executing against it
- Planning and executing work within sprint cycles, supporting teams through delivery and removing blockers
- Reviewing completed work against agreed criteria and signing off features
Feature and backlog management
- Maintaining a clearly prioritised backlog aligned to product vision and commercial goals
- Continuously refining priorities based on customer feedback, market trends and business direction
- Providing well-defined requirements to support efficient and accurate delivery
What they are looking for
- Solid experience working in a product role within a software business
- Ideally someone who has held a couple of product roles and is ready to take on more ownership
- Comfortable working in a regulated environment, with payroll experience a strong advantage but not essential
- Confident communicator, able to engage with users, engineers and senior stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail, particularly around user stories, UAT and sprint delivery
- Experience working with cross-functional and distributed teams across time zones
- Self-starter mindset, comfortable operating with minimal handholding
- Organised, adaptable and comfortable in a fast-paced, growing business
- Strong mathematical skills
Location and working pattern
- Based in Cheadle Hulme
- Fully office-based, five days per week
- Flexible working hours, with start times between 8–10am and finish times between 4–6pm
Salary and benefits
- £50,000 to £60,000 salary depending on experience
- Medi-cash scheme, allowing claims back for dental and other healthcare costs
- 25 days holiday plus your birthday off
- Annual company trip, with previous destinations including Barcelona, Amsterdam and UK-based locations
- Quarterly social events and regular team get-togethers around Manchester
- Relaxed, social office environment with pool table, darts and Friday drinks
- On-site gym within the building
- Performance-related bonus potential tied to stretch targets
Culture and environment
This is a collaborative, office-led culture with a strong emphasis on teamwork and shared ownership. The business values input and challenge, and is looking for someone who will bring ideas, question direction where appropriate and genuinely care about building a great product.
If you are a Product Manager looking to take real ownership of a growing payroll platform and want to be part of a close-knit, ambitious team, this is a strong opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
